and . . . Emma's Sister Serenity, the Siberian Husky

Emma has a sister and she is adopted.  Her name is Serenity.  She is a beautiful Siberian Husky that we rescued.  She is absolutely true to her name.  However, shhh, we haven't told her she's adopted. She doesn't realize that she isn't a Corgi.  She is still wondering why Emma can't jump up on the bed like she can.

Shedding.  Holy cow.  We have just passed through and successfully completed another SNOW STORM.  Huskies "blow" their coats during the Springtime to ready them for the heat of summer.  No wonder Huskies can live in the cold and snow.  They have layers of hair and undercoat that insulates them.  My house, furniture and floors have been covered in Husky 'snow flakes' for a few weeks.  Poor Serenity would walk into the living room and I immediately would sit her down to the routine of combing and picking out her hair clumps.  She would sit for a few minutes at a time and then escape to her sanctuary in the backyard.

This photo shows a lot of hair and you might think, that's not so bad. This amount of hair comes off every about twice a day for about three weeks.  See the following article:

Unlike many breeds the Siberian Husky has retained its original naturally functional coat. As a result the husky coat needs very minimal grooming. The main challenge with a huskies coat is dealing with shedding. Huskies have a double coat of hair, an undercoat and an outercoat. Approximately twice a year, depending on your climate, a husky will blow or shed its undercoat. This can last for about three weeks or more and a huge quantity of hair is lost in this time. The hair falls out in clumps, sometimes large clumps and so daily brushing is required to remove the hair that is falling out. The shedding will usually start on the legs and thighs and then progress the body and finish up with the britches and tail area. Sometimes a warm bath can help to loosen up hair during shedding season and make it easier to brush out.
